Running 5k in under 30 minutes
5k in 30 Minutes!!!
Today I completed a 5km run in under 30 minutes. This is just over 13 years to the day since I last managed this.
Sometime back in June this year I started following the None To Run program. This gets you running non-stop for 25 minutes after following a 12 week runnning program. I dilligently followed that program. Even whilst on holiday in Scandinavia, which was rather unusual for me. I completed it sometime in mid-September.
Since then I've just been doing runs of around 5k. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. The longest being 8km. This has been great. The only annoying bit was that my pace was never really quite enough to get to 5km in 30 minutes. I was normally around 7 to 8 minutes per kilometre, which means 35 to 42 minutes to finish a 5km run.
Then in my previous run, I pushed as hard as I could in the last km and managed a 6:09 split in my 7th kilometre. Not bad I thought. So today I pushed the whole way and completed the 5km in 29:53. My final split was the fastest at 5:50.
